Politics and the Meeting Industry:

What You Need to Know

The meetings and hospitality industry touches on so many facets of the economy that we need to be acutely aware of political policies, both domestic and foreign, and the way they impact meetings, travel, and the hospitality industry as a whole. This meeting's speaker, author and political consultant Dinesh D’Souza, will address these topics. This will by no means be a donkey vs. elephant conversation; the outcome of the upcoming election will affect us as a whole, whether Democrat, Republican, or any other party member.

By most people’s standards, Dinesh D'Souza made a success of himself very young in life. At age 26, he was advising President Reagan on issues such as civil rights, constitutional questions, and AIDS and prior to that he was managing editor of the magazine Policy Review. The World Affairs Council lists him as one of the nation's 500 leading authorities on international issues. Growing up in India, making the difficult decision to settle here in the United States, passionate enough about life here to climb the ladder to a policy analyst in the Reagan White House, all have given him unique insight into our government and economy.

The host of our May meeting is the Marriott Los Angeles Downtown. Located in the heart of the financial district of downtown Los Angeles, with 23 meeting rooms, 25,000 square feet of total meeting space and floor to ceiling windows with panoramic city views, the property is an ideal location for any range of meetings. Four hundred guest rooms and 69 suites are among the most comfortable and spacious in the downtown area (with new premium bedding). The largest meeting room is the Grand Ballroom with maximum meeting space of 7,440 sq. ft. and maximum seating capacity of 725. Los Angeles Marriott Downtown offers a beautiful outdoor heated pool, three restaurants and one lounge. Easy freeway access and its close proximity to many attractions including LA Live, Staples Center, Los Angeles Convention Center, Music Center, Cathedral, Dodger Stadium, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Universal Studios and Disneyland allow for an unlimited number of off-site possibilities.
